STORY

Alpha K9 Canada began because Cedar Rebecca Santanna (Nee Kaine Mac Rae) saw a need and decided to fill it. Over the years Rebecca has been associated with various people who were suffering from the effects of PTSD. Rebecca became very acquainted with the benefits of both PTSD Service Dogs and Therapeutic Equine programs and realized that these methods are a wonderful tool to aid in the Health of those who are suffering.Â
By training dogs to respond to the chemical release associated with stress as well as specific tasks that are related to each individual diagnosis. Service dogs help those with PTSD manage and cope with their symptoms in a positive manner.
Rebecca, being a horse person, was also familiar with the incredible teaching abilities that horses possess. With their herd mentality and strong silent communication, horses can teach various life skills. This, coupled with the fact that a horses natural cadence mimics that of a human walking, makes equine therapy programs an all-around wonderful resource for various types of disabilities, both visible and invisible.
After much research, Rebecca discovered that the Price for Service Dogs and Therapy Animals was highly overinflated . Some providers may charge $30,000.00+ for a PTSD Service Dog . A good Therapy horse may sell for the same amount. These prices concerned Rebecca, for she quickly realized that the people or Facilities that required these animals, may not be able to afford them. It was then that The NASH Project was born.
Partnering with other organizations The NASH Project started a training program for such animals so that they could be placed with Persons or facilities at NO CHARGE. The NASH Project used a limited number of rescue animals and has a specific bred for purpose program. All animals in training are handled by certified dog trainers and an extensive bank of volunteers. Puppies are often placed in Foster homes to gain experience with family situations and basic obedience.
Once training is complete the animals are then placed through partnering organizations to deserving recipients. Word of their work Spread and The NASH Project soon joined forces with a company in the United States and became Alpha K9 Canada.
To date, Alpha K9 Canada has placed numerous animals with recipients. These recipients report significant positive life changes.
