A Service Disabled Veteran-Owned and operated apparel and publishing company for Veterans.
“American Made to Honor American Heroes”
ABOUT US
Tactical 16, LLC is a multifaceted Disabled Veteran owned and operated company based in Colorado Springs, CO.
OUR MISSION
The Veteran community is full of many small, well-intentioned organizations that are each fighting their own battles to effect greater change. The realization that there is a need to unite and strengthen the warfighter community is the seed that was planted that has grown into the concept behind Tactical 16.
Our mission is to honor the sacrifices of American Soldiers, and the heroes that daily stand ready to protect and defend America – Police, Firefighters, and EMTs – by reaching out and joining forces with other Veteran-focused organizations and the tactical firearms community to help bring attention to their causes.
Tactical 16 is a Veteran focused publishing company that strives to work with military, police, firefighter and emergency service Veterans to give them a fair opportunity at sharing their story and becoming published authors. We are a small, but focused Disabled Veteran owned and operated business that not only understands Veterans, but in many cases members on our team are still serving proudly within the military and civil service sectors. Not a Veteran? We also want to hear from spouses, caregivers, parents and proud supporters of Veterans who work tirelessly to create opportunities for our Vets.
We have created a program that allows authors to create and publish a story of any genre with no upfront cost; in many ways significantly less than self-publication. We do not actively recruit authors and try to avoid using ghost writers to ensure stories are firsthand accounts straight from the author. We hope through our program we can provide some hope to our authors who might be struggling with PTSD and other combat related injuries. Writing the book from beginning to end affords an opportunity to experience the sense of accomplishment of completing a major project and at times to re-analyze past experiences through writing.
Having built our program from the ground up has given us the ability to provide a new way for Veterans to look at writing. We are working to revitalize a stagnate industry filled with ghost written accounts of war that in the end exploit the Veterans more than help. Most Veterans are not seeking an easy answer, but an opportunity to share experiences in written form. We offer a partnership and a new team for our authors to join and share their work.
Our contract terms are simple and laid out in an easy to read manner. We offer a 50/50 contract that allows the writer to still earn revenue on their work, while covering the publication costs. That contract is our commitment to work with a prospective author as a team to ensure success and reward for sharing his or her experiences.
Tactical 16 does not focus on sales, marketing or tough deadlines to stress the author. Instead, we work to create a team that allows all of our author access to a stress free, writer friendly environment. Our commitment has allowed us to be recognized and included in an excellent group known as the Authors United for Veterans organized by New York Times best-selling author James Rollins. Authors United for Veterans is packed with dedicated New York Times best-selling authors such as Brad Meltzer and Heather Graham. We are very blessed to be involved with such a powerful group of authors dedicated to helping our Veterans and Veteran writers.
Tactical 16 is excited and proud to be in a partnership with USACARES, a 503c Non-Profit (CFC# 12359). Some team members include comedian and actor Dennis Miller, Tactical 16 author Robert Lewis, disabled Veteran Bryan Anderson and New York Times best-selling author James Rollins.
Tactical 16 has been featured on Fox News Live in Washington DC, GI Jobs Magazine, KDKA News in Pittsburgh PA, KRDO in Colorado Springs and several other national and local publications. We currently feature an internet radio show with over 55,000 listeners with guests ranging from Major League baseball players, wrestlers, non-profit organizations and Veteran business owners. With the success of the Tactical 16 Radio Show, we are pleased to announce we will be airing on The Vets on Media group out of Arizona expanding out listening audience dramatically.
It’s more than just a writer and a story, it is “Your Voice, Your Story. Our Commitment to tell it the way you want it told.”
THE NAME
Why Tactical 16 for the company name? There are two parts to the name, Tactical and “16”. Each has a different meaning. Tactical refers to the Armed Forces, Police, Fire, and Rescue communities or any group who loves, believes in, and supports Our Country. The “16” is the number of acres of the World Trade Center complex that was destroyed on that harrowing day of September 11, 2001. That day will be forever engrained in the memories of many generations of Americans. But that day is also a reminder of the resolve of this Country’s People and the courage, dedication, honor, and integrity of our Armed Forces, Police, Fire, and Rescue communities. Without Americans willing to risk their lives to defend and protect Our Country, we would not have the opportunities we have before us today.
Thank you for supporting our Veterans and Public Safety officers; we are honored to share our family with you.
Founder-
Erik Shaw > President & Founder
Erik is a Veteran of Iraq, Afghanistan, served in Korea and still serves in the US Army Reserves. His active duty military exploits are well documented in his Tactical 16 published auto-biography titled Brave Rifles. He currently works for Sonoran Desert Institute but previously has done work with multiple US Government Agencies as a Civilian and member of the US Army. Erik has a degree in Computer Network Administration and has attended several US Army and US Air Force Space based education courses for the military and the Department of Defense as a civilian. Erik came up with the idea for Brave Rifles in 2008 while doing work as a Veteran advocate in Pittsburgh, PA. “We wrote Brave Rifles to launch a Company” he has stated in various Interviews. “I wanted to see if this outlet for Veterans to funnel idea’s and thoughts and create books would be a viable source of healing and see if we could actually help them get a fair book deal and save them start up money in the process. So far so good!”
Erik worked with various companies and universities to create various programs that would help Veterans find employment and help employers identify the best candidates for potential jobs. It was also during this time that Erik got involved in the speech circuit and media across the country as he continued to work with politicians, celebrities, and non-profit organizations.
Erik was diagnosed with a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) after his redeployment from Iraq due to an encounter with an IED in Baghdad in 2005. Brave Rifleswas written in part for his daughter to have an account of his military service due to the unknown future the TBI may hold. He has been awarded the Bronze Star, 7 Army Commendation Medals and 7 Army Achievement Medals, Combat Action and Space Badges along with multiple other US and NATO issued Awards, Coins and Citations. Erik currently maintains the Rank of Sergeant First Class and has been a member of the military since 2001.
Erik credits the help of too many to list for the creation and birth of Tactical 16. The idea was to form a company that gives Veterans a bigger stage to have their voice heard and to create a network of trusted companies and organizations that work with Veterans from the time they ask for help to the time the say they are good to go. Tactical 16 envisions working with selected non-profit organizations on their mission through sponsorship, funding and volunteerism when needed. Tactical 16 wants Veterans to be heard and wants to preserve their individual legacies as we hope they can get some relief from the battles with PTSD, TBI and other service related injuries.
Erik was born in Florida, raised in Pittsburgh, PA, and currently residing in Colorado Springs with his wife and daughter.
